MARRAKECH - OUARZAZATE
Day 1
Departs from Marrakech, through Ouarzazate and
to:
Mountains of the High Atlas. These natural
fortifications in the south of the imperial city
offer the most beautiful mountain landscape in
Morocco. At 2260m, theTizi-n-Tichka Pass is the
highest road passage in the country.
Visit the notorious GLAOUI kasbah. Follow the
Inmiter path (an ancient path used by caravans
from Timbuktu on their way to Marrakech),
located in the heart of the Valley of the Ounila
and the Atlas. Breathtaking landscapes,
fascinating and ever-changing colours.
Stopover in Ait Ben-Haddou, Unesco protected
village.
Ait Ben-Haddou is a beautiful world heritage
Ksar, flooded in a peaceful and calm atmosphere.
Sunsets are nothing short of spectacular. The
village is renowned and valued among film makers
worldwide and was used as a location for films
such as “Lawrence of Arabia”.
Ouarzazate (sleepover)
Ouarzazate
sits on a high plateau at 1160m and enjoys a
fantastic climate.
Not to be missed, Ouarzazate is an ideal spot to
begin an enchanting journey towards the southern
oases as it is just at the meeting point between
the Drâa and the Dadès rivers.
OUARZAZATE – TINGHIR Day 2

Road towards Tinghir to El kalâa M’Gouna (kingdom
of the roses)
then onto the track of Bout Harrar across Berber
villages.
Then back on the road towards the gorges of
Todgha.
TINGHIR – ERFOUD-MERZOUGA
Day 3
Tinghir (at 1342m altitude) is famous for its
palm grove, believed to be the largest in
Morocco. A landscape to make most film producers
green with envy! On the road small monticules of
earth can be found. These form part of an old
underground irrigation system, proof that this
desert was once prosperous.

Erfoud, with its 40 ksours and
700,000 date palm
trees. The dunes of Merzouga. You will be
enchanted
by such beauty. This is another world, a mineral
world where the heat is testing and where the
sky
man and objects under a blistering light.
Symphony
of the desert.
|
MERZOUGA - ZAGORA
Day 4
The route takes you through Rissani (Morocco’s
former economic capital city and the 1st
imperial city in the country’s history to be
called Sijil Massa). The route continues towards
Alnif up to Tazzarine where its follows the
track of Tizin’Tfilalate villages. Possible
encounters with nomadic tribes.
|

in gazelle’s skins) and pottery factory.

Esfoul and the Jewish villages (by track).

with panoramic views. Then towards Mhamid (last
village of the Drâa Valley, previously an
important camel market and still a meeting place
for nomadic tribes from the Sahel and Sahara).
The
road then becomes increasingly desert. Stopover
at the sacred
Oumlalag oasis still thriving despite of the
drought that struck
the area. Possible encounters with nomads.

Chigaga (bivouac).

Outstanding site. It is recommended to spend the
night there to see the sunrise very early the
morning, or better still the sunset in the
evening, when the rocks are painted in all
bright colours. Gleaming ornaments. See the
superb barrier of pink granite mountains with
surprising shapes piling up on the top of one
another.
