MARRAKECH – ESSAOUIRA Day 1
Essaouira means "well designed".
Some descendants of the black
slaves from Sudan (called
Gnaouas) still live in this
fortified city.
The port with its trawlers and
its gulls has similarities with
French Brittany, with the
difference that its architecture
remains of Portuguese influence.
In the middle age the town was
named “Mogador city” by
Portuguese sailors. Nowadays a
windsurfers’ paradise (because
of
very strong winds between April
and September).
Authentic Medina.
The town is famous and
appreciated for being a mix of
various cultures. It has a very
busy artistic and cultural scene
(craft industries, sculptures,
paintings, music and weavings).

A visit of the Museum is a must!
Painters,
writers, film producers and
musicians come to
immerse themselves in the
mystery surrounding the city.
Orson Wells filmed Othello there,
in the 60’s Jimmy Hendrix
and famous hippies like Cat
Stevens or the "Living room
Theatre" found their inspiration
there.

Mauritanian border).
Passing through Agadir.
On passe par Agadir.

Visit of Imlil:
Passing through Asni (64 km from
Marrakech), very picturesque
mountain hamlet, still preserved
from mass tourism because of the
bad state of the road and
difficult access. Ideal starting
point for a walk in the national
garden of Toubkal and a climb to
its top (the highest mountain in
North Africa with 4165m).
Visit of the Ourika valley:
In the heart of the Berber country
and still inhabited by
nomadic tribes. Very pretty
valley, boxed between mountains
and numerous rivers. Strewn with
wild bay-trees. Culture, local
arts and crafts.
